- Honestly evaluate your background. Click here to see the Background Standards and identify if you have any issues that may negatively impact your application.
- Complete the Public Safety Online Application! Before appearing to take the written test, click "Apply Now" in the top left hand corner above. Answer the questions to see if you meet the minimum qualifications, preview any background areas that may need to be more closely evaluated during the background investigation process, and gain a better understanding of what will be expected of you as a Los Angeles Police Officer.
- Print-out your results. Bring a copy with you to make your check-in faster.
- Take the written test. The exam is offered almost daily - right in your back yard! Once you are ready, click APPLY NOW! banner to start the online application. Check the Calendar of Events for locations near you!

Candidate Assistance Program (CAP)
Did you know that new Police Officers are tested for physical fitness on the 3rd day of the Police Academy? Watch the video here.
CAP is the best way to prepare. Click here for class times and dates. Saturday Sessions are 7:30 am to 10:30 am at the Ahmanson Recruit Training Center only.
The Valley location is Devonshire Community Police Station 10250 Etiwanda Ave, Northridge, CA 91325. Meet at the park adjacent to Devonshire at the corner of Devonshire Street and Etwanda Ave. Tuesdays & Thursdays 6-9 PM.
Rainy Day Schedule: If it is raining 30 minutes prior to start time, CAP will be canceled. Women's CAP is Rain or Shine!
