Detention Officer

A Detention Officer manages the intake of Department arrestees including booking, fingerprinting, and maintaining custody and control of arrested persons. ALL positions include duties which require the ability to type using a computer keyboard.

Starting Annual Salary:  $64,038 and a cap of $$88,698

STEPS TO EMPLOYMENT

  • Pass the QUALIFYING Written Test
  • Pass the QUALIFYING Physical Abilities Test
  • Pass the Psychological Written Test and Interview
  • Medical Examination
  • Background Investigation
  • Be fingerprinted and have no disqualifying record of law violations or other improper conduct

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • 18 years of age
  • GED or High School Diploma required
  • No felony convictions
  • Good physical condition
  • Must complete the 16-week Training Academy
ENSURING SAFETY AND SECURITY

General Duties Book suspects; Fingerprint inmates; Escort prisoners to and from cells; Search inmates and prisoners; Inspect housing cells on a periodic basis; Supervise inmate meals; May be required to use restraints in inmate custody control situations.

  • Senior Detention Officer - You may test for this position after working as a Detention Officer for 18 months
  • Principal Detention Officer - You may test for this position after working as a Senior Detention Officer for six months.
