Officer Barbara Byun was pleasantly surprised to find out how many women work for the Los Angeles Police Department. Being from Brazil, she believes that the cream of the crop from throughout the world have found their calling with the LAPD.

After meeting a Female Officer that broke the sterotype that Janet Kim had regarding LAPD, she joined the team and now as a Sergeant with the Air Support Division, she pilots a helicopter everyday at work.

"Pasadena native, Officer Asia Hardy wanted to be a Police Officer since the age of 13. Her mentor, Sergeant Percy Tucker, inspired her to chase her dream of becoming an LAPD Officer. As an Officer she embraces her role as a mentor to her own daughter and as a positive representation for Black girls throughout the City of Los Angeles."

Every story has to start somewhere, and mine started at this fourplex. It’s the place where I lived with my sister after our mother died. It’s where I spent weekends outside until the streetlights came on. It’s the home I left when I went to college, and it was my safe haven when college didn’t work out. It’s the address I gave when I first applied for LAPD…and the same address I gave when I had to apply for a second time. It’s where I learned to never let the first answer be the final answer.
